Deadly Truck Accidents Result in Criminal Charges Against Truck Drivers

Two truck drivers are facing homicide charges stemming from two fatal truck accidents, one in South Carolina and one in Pennsylvania.

Vincente Virola Rodriguez has been charged with reckless homicide in connection with an accident in March in which his tractor-trailer crashed into an SUV, killing a 4-year-old girl. According to press reports,

The crash occurred in a northbound lane of U.S. 501 when the tractor-trailer went through the intersection of U.S. 501 and Waccamaw Pines Drive, according to a report from the S.C. Highway Patrol’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team. The minivan and the SUV [the child] was riding in had slowed for traffic ahead of them.

Cell phone use and speed contributed to the crash, the report said.

In a separate incident, truck driver Yevgeniy Bugreyev has been charged with two counts of criminal homicide by vehicle after his tractor-trailer crossed into the eastbound lane of I-70 in Washington County, Penn., and collided with a car and an SUV. The driver and passenger in the car were both killed.

State police said the accident was not weather related.
