Frank L. Branson

For more than 40 years, Dallas attorney Frank L. Branson has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to victims of dangerous products, commercial airplane crashes, injuries from gas explosions or electric burns, medical negligence, major trucking accidents, and industrial catastrophes. He and the legal team at The Law Offices of Frank L. Branson also successfully pursued companies and corporate representatives in high-stakes business disputes.

Widely recognized as one of America’s best trial lawyers, Branson provides clients with tenacious pre-trial preparation and masterful courtroom strategies. A leader in the effective use of multimedia demonstrative evidence, his full-time staff includes a registered nurse, a highly experienced investigator, and an audio/visual professional who works closely with the firm’s top-flight attorneys to produce digital video, computer animation, medical art, and individualized anatomical models that make judges and juries take notice.

“What we are trying to do is allow the judge and jury to walk in our client’s moccasins a short distance in order to understand the nature and severity of their injuries. We have never hesitated to use our resources to go the extra mile for our clients,” says Branson.

In addition to accepting referrals from other lawyers, Branson and the firm regularly represent prominent doctors, lawyers, business executives, politicians, and other professionals in cases where they or their families have faced major legal issues.

As a fourth generation lawyer and a respected and accomplished attorney in Dallas, Debbie Dudley Branson has a strong family history in the law and a real commitment to her profession. She maintains a passionate belief that individual lawyers have an obligation to be community leaders, public servants, and forces for positive social change.

Since 1983, she has practiced with The Law Offices of Frank L. Branson as part of an experienced trial team on a full spectrum of cases. Much of her work is concentrated behind the scenes, focusing on litigation strategies that include focus groups, attitudinal surveys, jury selection, witness preparation, and jury debriefing.

“Many trials are won or lost before the lawyers even enter the courtroom,” says Ms. Branson. “Preparation for trial is key for success. We understand this and know that there is simply no substitute. Our team’s fervent will to win is an important factor, too.”

While collective preparation, brainpower, energy, and resources are all important for success, Ms. Branson says the firm’s namesake provides the key ingredient. “The real difference stems from Frank. He brings a bold, creative approach to case preparation and encourages each of us to think creatively as we prepare for trial.”

Thomas Farmer joined The Law Offices of Frank L. Branson in 1996, bringing valuable insights based on his experience in defending claims brought against insurance companies during most of his first 10 years as a lawyer.

According to Farmer, the most important quality that defines the role of an attorney at The Law Offices of Frank L. Branson is a dedication to uncovering the truth. He and other lawyers at the firm understand that their work can have a long-lasting, positive effect on their clients’ quality of life. As a result, Farmer applies the firm’s knowledge and experience to maximize the value of each claim to the client’s benefit, while being mindful of the potential stress and anxiety that litigation can cause.

“Few law firms possess the resources of our firm, but we want to make sure that those resources are used wisely and bring real value to the case and client,” says Farmer. “It’s well known that we will bring an attention to detail and use technology in new and innovative ways in the courtroom.”

Using demonstrative evidence and experts, as well as state-of-the-art videography, Farmer and the firm’s attorneys are committed to preparation and a tenacious approach to every case.

Kern Lewis joined The Law Offices of Frank L. Branson in 2016, bringing extensive experience in brain injury cases. He understands the devastating impact that a brain injury can have on someone’s life, and he has dedicated his career to fighting against the negligence of others.

“There is hardly any injury more devastating than a traumatic brain injury. An injury to a person’s back, arms or legs is terrible – but a brain injury is an injury to the very core of who a person is,” says Lewis. “A brain injury impacts their memory, their personality, and their ability to think.”

In a recent traumatic brain injury case – Lewis lived with his client for several days to be able to completely understand and experience the impact the injury had on her life.  “When I told her story to the jury at trial – I was able to do so as someone who experienced it – not just heard about it.  It makes a huge difference.” His client received the largest jury verdict ever awarded in that court. But even after the trial and the money was paid, he continued to work with that client and her family members to make sure she was taken care of.

Lewis’ skills as a trial lawyer have earned him local and national recognition. He is double board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Civil Trial Law and Consumer and Commercial Law, a distinction only 15 lawyers have obtained. Lewis has also been inducted into the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) with the rank of Associate and has an AV Preeminent Rating by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest level of professional excellence. He has been repeatedly named to the Texas Super Lawyers list, which is an honor less than 5 percent of lawyers obtain. In 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2018 he was named a “Top 100” Trial Lawyer in Texas by the National Trial Lawyers Association. He was also named to the National Trial Lawyer’s list of Top 25 Brain Injury Lawyers in 2018.

A 2010 addition to The Law Offices of Frank L. Branson, John Burkhead provides a passionate and single-minded focus to championing the causes of firm clients.

Burkhead has become a key asset for the other seasoned trial attorneys at the Branson firm, which relies on a team approach to litigation in quickly assembling expert resources and leveraging cutting-edge technology to deliver powerful messages to juries and judges, as well as opposing counsel.

“Being the client’s champion starts with hard work,” says Burkhead. “From the very start of litigation, the attorneys at this firm make a point of setting the pace and making sure that our side has an absolute command of the facts and issues at play.”
