NTSB Issues Safety Recommendations for Truckers, Other Commercial Carriers

The National Transportation Safety Board recently recommended a series of safety programs for commercial motor vehicles aimed at improving safety on the nation’s roadways.

The Law Offices of Frank Branson, which provides legal representation to victims of trucking and other commercial vehicle accidents, applauds the move to improve safety for truckers and other commercial drivers.

The NTSB recommended that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (the federal agency tasked with preventing commercial motor vehicle-related fatalities and injuries):

  • Establish an ongoing program to monitor, evaluate, report on, and continuously improve fatigue management programs implemented by motor carriers to identify, mitigate, and continuously reduce fatigue-related risks for drivers.
  • Incorporate scientifically based fatigue mitigation strategies into the hours-of-service regulations for passenger-carrying drivers who operate during the nighttime window of circadian low.
  • As a part of new entrant safety audits, review with each new entrant motor carrier a structured process, such as the Safety Management Cycle, to (1) identify the root cause of safety risks and (2) maintain an effective safety assurance program.

The FMCSA works to ensure safety in motor carrier operations through strong enforcement of safety regulations; targeting high-risk carriers and commercial motor vehicle drivers; improving safety information systems and commercial motor vehicle technologies; strengthening commercial motor vehicle equipment and operating standards; and increasing safety awareness. To accomplish these activities, the Administration works with Federal, State, and local enforcement agencies, the motor carrier industry, labor safety interest groups, and others.

When people suffer catastrophic injuries and wrongful death in trucking accidents, the lawyers at The Law Offices of Frank L. Branson work hard to identify the responsible parties and hold them accountable.

Whether the cause is driver fatigue, improper truck maintenance, and/or improper screening, training and supervision of drivers, the Dallas truck accident lawyers at The Law Offices of Frank L. Branson have the experience, resources and technical abilities to determine what happened and who should be held responsible.
